History

The origins of Conflict Avoidance in the UK include specialist dispute (avoidance / resolution) panels for a few major projects including the 2nd Severn Crossing /Prince of Wales Bridge (1996) and the London Olympics (2012).

Going back to 2015 a Conflict avoidance and early intervention joint working party was established by the ICE/RICS/RIBA/DRBF

The first meeting was Thursday 13th August 2015. In attendance: Mark Entwistle (RICS), Peter Higgins (ICE), Chris Miers (RIBA/DRBF). Secretariat: Brendan Van Rooyen (ICE), Martin Burns (RICS), Raj Sohal (RICS)

Matters discussed and agreed:

  • Agreed that the objective of this group is to increase awareness in the construction sector of conflict avoidance and early intervention techniques and processes, and thereby create a market for conflict avoidance and early intervention processes.
  • The objective will be achieved through a strategic campaign by RICS, ICE, DRBF and RIBA, who will collaborate to engage with government and industry bodies, to educate and influence.
